FORTY

It was just another ordinary Thursday, the day that Rob turned 40 years old. The alarm went off at 5:30 and a typically action-packed day at school led to a nice but low-key dinner with Carley's parents.

The real celebration came on Saturday the 10th, when a group of friends showed up bearing gifts and we all headed out to the Kyoto Japanese restaurant for a hibachi/sushi dinner. (Rowan stayed home with the babysitter.) Afterward, the gang came back to the house for a bonfire party. The whole thing was a surprise to Rob, who really had no idea that anything was planned.

The biggest surprise was the appearance of Rob's long-time but rarely seen friend Mike, who made the 7-hour drive up from southwest Louisiana where he works deep-sea diving on oil rigs. Mike and Rob became good friends almost 15 years ago in Arizona, but they've only seen each other a handful of times in the last 10 years.

Mike brought quite the classy gift! This gift might take a while to finish off, since we rarely get into the tequila zone in our "old age".

So how does it feel to be forty? "Just a little bit older, and maybe even a little wiser."
